Leicester City Sack Steve Cooper
Leicester City dismissed manager Steve Cooper on Sunday, 24 November, just five months after his appointment, due to the squad’s lacklustre performance in the ongoing English Premier League season.
Despite the team sitting 16th and narrowly above the relegation zone, the club’s hierarchy was dissatisfied with how the 2024/25 campaign is unfolding, along with rising discontent among players.
Cooper, who succeeded Enzo Maresca after Leicester’s Championship-winning promotion, struggled to instil a cohesive playing style. During the 44-year-old Welshman’s tenure, the Foxes managed only two wins from 12 matches, with their latest result a 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea – led by former boss Maresca – on Saturday, 23 November.
Assistant manager Alan Tate and coach Steve Rands have also left the club.
This swift action marks a departure from Leicester’s traditionally patient approach to managerial changes. Ownership is eager to avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation woes and hopes to name a replacement before next weekend’s match against Brentford. Potential candidates include Graham Potter, Carlos Corberán, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
First-team coach Ben Dawson will oversee training temporarily, supported by Andrew Hughes and other staff members.
